As most of you knows I play real money on real poker tables each week. Three or four times per year we play bigger tourneys with most of the guys who likes to play poker. We do those tourneys when it the Superbowl, the Grey Cup(canadian football final), when there's a big boxing match... Most of the time its when there's a big sport event.
Well today it was the Grey Cup, and like each years we play our poker tourneys. We usualy get between 15 to 20 players. This year we got 17 different players in total, I say it like this because some couldnt make it for the first tourney, so we played with 15 poker players for the first tournament.
The tournaments work this way, the buy in are 50$ each players, no rebuy, 100 starting stack with the blinds starting at 1/2. We increase the blinds every 15 minutes. The prizes are always different cuz we dont always have the same amount of players, but for this year first tourney the prizes were 500$ to the winner, 150$ to the runner up and 100$ for the third. Thats how its decided at the beggining of the day, but most of the time its up to the 3 guys who are playing in the final to deal the money out if they want to.
Each year I win big !! And this year was no exception
I wont describe all the tournament but in resume I had to be real patient! I couldnt hit the deck one time in the first hour and a half. I did bluff my way a few times to get some chips because the blinds were becoming scary for my stack. I'm always a tight player but this time I was as tight as I ever was.
So I got my way to the final table with some bluffs, some blinds stealing and lots of folds. Most guys couldnt beleive how patient I was. Until one point where I was left to about 140 chips while the blinds were 10/20, I'm on the big blind which take 1/7 of my stack and another guy decide to raise my blind for the 20th time in a row, he raise to 50 which is realy big for me to just call. I look at my hole cards and I see 10 Q of diamonds, I decide, its now or never !! Its all or nothing !! I go ALL IN !! I wouldnt do such a move usualy, but in the situation I was in, it was the time to try my luck. I been playing real tight all night and this guy been raising my blind way too often, he might just fold to my all in and I could get the pot which was enough for me.
Back to the raiser, after a long wait to decide if he would call or fold he decide to call !! Time to show our hands, he first show an Aceof diamond, DAMN !! Didnt like to see it but kinda knew he would have an ace. What i didnt know is he called my all in with a freaking weak ace !!! A 4 off suit !!! It was such a donk call !! Ok his ace was better than my queen high but you never call all in with a weak ace !! I was mad at him for a moment to call me all in who been playing real tight all night and goes all in for the first time in the tournament.
Anyway... so its A 4 off suit (53%) vs 10 Q of diamonds (46%)
The flop comes out... 5 5 Q !!! I hit my QUEEN !! I' m like yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!
The turn comes out... 8 !!! Great No ace !! I look at the guy and tell him "This will make you learn to never play all in with weak ace !!"
The River (to add to the insult)... ANOTHER QUEEN !! Full House !!
Just like that I'm back in the game with a healthy stack. Then I take a couple pot here and there. Take some blinds call a bluff made against me. And in no time I was the chip leader !!
Give me chips, with big blinds 5 players left, all scared to be eliminated before geting in the money, I have NO MERCY !!
At one point the blinds were 25/50, the guy who was definitly the most scared guy at the table decide to raise me at 100 while I was on the big blind. I have J 7 of diamonds and I decide to call and outplay him on the flop. The flop comes with nothing good, 10 5 3, one diamond. I have position on him since he raised from the small blind. So he see the flop and I automaticaly see it in his eyes he didnt hit, he obviously check, I could have bet there but with a board like this I cant try to bluff it would look too obvious. I decide to wait and see what the turn will be and I check too. The river comes... 3 of diamond. He didnt hit this either I'm sure. He dont even try any move and check. This is my time !! I have 4 diamonds, if I get called I still have some chances to hit a flush on the river and im certain that he got Ace high at this point, so I still can hit a pair on the river. So 17 outs with a scared guy I make the move... All in !!!
The say... "SH*T !!" (I feel so good about my move when I hear say it)
The guy thought about what he would do for at least 10 mins. He kept saying "I'm sure you have nothing!" I never showed him any weaknest, I didnt call the clock on him cuz it shows weakness. After a while I decided to tell him "You will see my hand no matter what you do, fold or call I will show." He thought about it a bit and said "Its either a bluff or you got a pocket pair" I answered him what I think made him do the right thing for me "Youre right its either one of them". After a long agony in my heart, he decided to fold !! Took the 200 chips pot and showed him the bluff !! Not to be cocky but to be a man of my word since I told him I would show.
The rest of the tourney is history, I took hm out a few hands later and finaly got heads up with another guy who played in the WSOP in 2006 and finished 186th. The guy didnt even want to try to play heads up agains me, I had like 3.5 times the amount of chips he had. He asked me if we could deal the prizes. We made a deal to give him 225$ insted of 150$ and I got 425$ insted of 500$.
